Wound Management Course

This 5 day short course is intended to provide participants with a greater degree of understanding and confidence in a number of aspects of wound management. The course is designed to build upon knowledge gained from previous sessions. Although each day may be taken individually it is highly recommended, that the course be taken as a whole. The course is presented by a number of peak and influential experts on wound management in South Australia.
Content:
The program will cover:
Day 1
• Anatomy and physiology of the skin and mechanisms of wound healing
• Wound bed preparation
• Nutrition and other factors that influence healing
• The role of hyperbaric medicine in wound healing
Day 2
• Wound assessment and documentation
• Classification and selection of dressings
• Wound pain and effective management
• Dressing procedures
• Skin management and topical applications
Day 3
• The diagnosis and physiology of arterial and venous leg ulcers
• ABPI and compression therapy
• Pressure ulcers and risk assessment
• Wound debridement
Day 4
• Highly exudating wounds and their management
• Unusual causes of ulceration, identification and management options
• The high risk foot - specific assessment requirements and management options
• Legal issues in the wound management arena
Day 5
• Acute surgical wounds and complications
• Skin graft management and donor sire care
• Skin tears and trauma
• Burns management
