Meeting the demand for in-community healthcare

25 Aug 2010Community Care, Education & Training, General, Healthcare

A new-to-Queensland community healthcare organisation will launch today in South East Queensland.

YourLife, backed by an interstate organisation with 115 years of experience, will provide services to both government-funded and fee-for-service clients, specialising in hospital in the home, post-hospital visits, palliative care and wound care.

State Manager of YourLife Queensland Tracey Silvester said demand for in-community health services are growing as the number of people over the age of 65 in Australia increases.

“People want to live at home independently for as long as possible and we can help them achieve that,” Ms Silvester said. “In addition, there is a growing realisation that in-community health services can reduce unplanned hospitalisation, ease the burden on aged care facilities and save governments dollars.

“Local, highly skilled registered and enrolled nurses, allied health professionals, care workers, and health educators will provide a broad range of in-community health care.

“Clients will be supported by a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week call centre where they can access experienced health care professionals for advice between home visits.”

YourLife will also provide Registered Training Organisation approved courses in Certificate III in Aged Care and the Diploma of Nursing from 2011. “With a critical shortage of aged care workers and nurses, YourLife will be an important provider in meeting these workforce demands in the future,” Ms Silvester said.

“YourLife is backed by a research department, which specialises in chronic illness management and which is internationally respected.

“Our research, educational and technology capabilities have an immediate benefit for the community. We have developed leading care programs, providing our health professionals with access to the latest clinical information and technology.”

As a not-for-profit social enterprise, funds raised by YourLife are reinvested to provide health and care support to disadvantaged people.
